Another weekend come and gone....

Hi there.....well, another weekend has come and gone and a new week is about to begin. I can't believe how fast the weeks are going so far this year.....it will be Christmas before we know it! Well, we have been having really hot weather again and it is supposed to be getting hotter over the next few days, so that won't be very nice.....I really hate the hot weather! I much prefer the cold weather where you can rug up and get warm......hey there's only so much clothing you can take off! Anyways, we have had some busy weeks and it doesn't look like it is going to get much quieter really.....but that is good, I would rather be busy than not busy. Colin and I are really trying to lose weight, but i am afraid that we both have really bad will-power and just cave in.....and I am really bad when i get down, just want to eat and eat and eat. We have had the tread-mill and the exercise bike in the loungeroom for a little while now, but today saw the lounge suite moved out of the way and the exercise equipment put right in the centre of the room, so.....the next step is to actually using them! I have hope for us......please pray!

I am thankful for;

1. An amazing God
2. New people at church
3. God's faithful people who are really wanting to see our church grow
4. New friends
5. the ability to do cross stitch ~ one of my fave hobbies

After coming across this verse today I began to think about it a little. You know sometimes we can get ourselves all worked up over the most ridiculous things and let something that really wasn't a big deal ruin our day. It reminds me of the need to surround myself with people that encourage me, but also to be an encourager. Sometimes we are a little preoccupied with ourselves and what makes us feel happy, but I think that it is the wrong way of looking at things. Yes, I am important, but if I focus all on me, then what happens to everyone else. I guess what I really mean is that if we surround ourselves with God-fearing, loving people who offer good role models and less rubbish then that is what we will become ourselves. Iron sharpens iron......how we act, speak and encourage or influence can really affect others, and if we want to be sharp for God then we really have to be mindful of everything that we do, think and say all the time. Busy, busy, busy...

Well, today has been quite a busy day. Started off with getting to the hall to let people in who were using the hall today and then ducking off for a quick much needed hair cut - yay! Then off to get the mail (drop home and hang a load of washing out), and get some groceries for the pantry at the church only to find that when I got to the cash register I did not have a signed cheque with me - cause we have to have two signatures. So then I had to rush back to the hall to get some cheques signed and then had a 10 minute time limit to get back to the supermarket and back to the hall for a Mission meeting. Mission meeting done, it was time to get home for a little lunch before we had to make some phone calls and visit someone in the hospital and pay a visit to some friends with whom I had to deliver a promised zucchini slice (which was really good - by the way, at least Colin enjoyed the other one that I made!) God is closer than you think..... part 1

In our small group over the last two weeks and heading into the next at least 5 weeks (depending on how long it takes to do each study..... this first session has taken us two weeks) we have been looking at the study "God is Closer Than You Think" by John Ortberg.... he also has a book of the same name. It has been encouraging to see the many ways through the Bible where God has been with His people, especially when they weren't expecting it. So, for the next few days I am going to do my homework on here as a blog each day. Hope that it works like that! The story of the Bible is the story of God's desire to be with people. He is determined that each of uys be His friend, His companion, and His dwelling place. He is stretching out to reach us and fill our lives with His presence.
