Jesus is no fairytale!!!

Today we had a blast at church with a Kid's Sunday celebration with the theme of "Jesus is no fairytale". We have been learning about stories of Jesus and the basic aim of today was to talk about the fact that the stories that we read in the Bible about Jesus are 100% true, unlike fairytales and other stories that we read or watch on tv. Colin (or should I say Grandpa Joe?) did an awesome job of condensing the Bible.......well....the New Testament anyway, into three short segments and most of the children were interested the whole way through.........which is a feat all in itself. We had a great lot of kids come which was really exciting and I think it was a good atmosphere and time of worship in a different way. I hope to have some photos that I can put up here tomorrow which will be good. Anyway, after a very busy week, it's time for school holidays which means that it is a little bit quieter for us, only a little... and hopefully we can get some admin done that has been needed to be done for some time.

Things that I am thankful for;
1. a great and mighty God without whom I can do nothing
2. children in the church (even the naughty ones....he he he)
3. a lovely visit from Colin's parents
4. spectacular assistance in church from very competent peoples
5. a cosy bed to sleep in, which I am extremely thankful for tonight! (so tired, I may even be asleep before 12!)

Sounds like fun - we're doing A Narnia theme in November cant wait We had 40 or more kids at our kids club friday night was fantastic had a disco with God songs not much planning in it but was so fun I love disco

After coming across this verse today I began to think about it a little. You know sometimes we can get ourselves all worked up over the most ridiculous things and let something that really wasn't a big deal ruin our day. It reminds me of the need to surround myself with people that encourage me, but also to be an encourager. Sometimes we are a little preoccupied with ourselves and what makes us feel happy, but I think that it is the wrong way of looking at things. Yes, I am important, but if I focus all on me, then what happens to everyone else. I guess what I really mean is that if we surround ourselves with God-fearing, loving people who offer good role models and less rubbish then that is what we will become ourselves. Iron sharpens iron......how we act, speak and encourage or influence can really affect others, and if we want to be sharp for God then we really have to be mindful of everything that we do, think and say all the time. Busy, busy, busy...

Well, today has been quite a busy day. Started off with getting to the hall to let people in who were using the hall today and then ducking off for a quick much needed hair cut - yay! Then off to get the mail (drop home and hang a load of washing out), and get some groceries for the pantry at the church only to find that when I got to the cash register I did not have a signed cheque with me - cause we have to have two signatures. So then I had to rush back to the hall to get some cheques signed and then had a 10 minute time limit to get back to the supermarket and back to the hall for a Mission meeting. Mission meeting done, it was time to get home for a little lunch before we had to make some phone calls and visit someone in the hospital and pay a visit to some friends with whom I had to deliver a promised zucchini slice (which was really good - by the way, at least Colin enjoyed the other one that I made!) God is closer than you think..... part 1

In our small group over the last two weeks and heading into the next at least 5 weeks (depending on how long it takes to do each study..... this first session has taken us two weeks) we have been looking at the study "God is Closer Than You Think" by John Ortberg.... he also has a book of the same name. It has been encouraging to see the many ways through the Bible where God has been with His people, especially when they weren't expecting it. So, for the next few days I am going to do my homework on here as a blog each day. Hope that it works like that! The story of the Bible is the story of God's desire to be with people. He is determined that each of uys be His friend, His companion, and His dwelling place. He is stretching out to reach us and fill our lives with His presence.
